The Pediatric Nutrition Lab, directed by Dr. Nancy F. Krebs, MD, MS, conducts a variety of research studies that aim to optimize the nutrition of women and children. Over the last four decades the research team has led and continues to lead the way in stable isotope studies including zinc, iron, and calcium and infant, young child feeding and breastfeeding studies implemented both locally in Denver and internationally. The group is currently part of the NICHD’s Global Network for Women’s and Children’s Health Research and collaborates on multi-site, multi-country studies that prioritize improving the health and development of women and children in low-middle income countries. Current work includes investigation of how early nutrition intervention during pregnancy effects birth outcomes and measurement of unique food signatures and bio-active metabolites from the Mediterranean-style diet that are linked to positive health outcomes.
