Welcome from the Program Director
Children’s Hospital Colorado (CHCO) and University of Colorado’s newly minted 12-month Pediatric Precision Medicine (PM) Fellowship Program is located with the nationally and internationally revered University of Colorado Department of Pediatrics and the Precision Medicine Institute. Upon completion of training, trainees will command expertise in Precision Medicine (PM) as it applies to their specialty. Training will include exposure to gene therapies, antisense oligonucleotides, enzyme replacements, immunotherapies, and cell-based therapies.
Uniquely this program will be tailored to the trainee’s area of interest ranging from Oncology to Immunology to Nephrology and everything in between. The program is dedicated to trainee education; faculty are board certified in respective areas of practice. The duty and honor of educating the next generation of scientists and care providers is amongst our highest priorities. Our campus has unparalleled depth of pathology with all stages of natural histories encountered for optimal educational opportunities. The collaborative nature of this campus directly contributes to the success of trainees, faculty, and patients.

Fellows participate in the Genetic and Metabolic Clinics at Children’s Hospital Colorado. Clinics involve the general care of patients referred for precision medical intervention. There are regular multidisciplinary clinics devoted to care for an array of precision medicine interventions where fellows will attend and lead clinic sessions.
Precision Medicine Institute has devised specialty training in the following areas:
- Introductory welcome meeting– discuss how PMI is supporting the onboarding novel therapies and the overall processes.
- Novel Therapeutics Committee – Committee meetings are typically every other week.
- Legal team discussions for contracting with companies interested in CHCO becoming a Qualified Treatment Center – these happen ad hoc as we onboard therapies.
- Internal discussion about RAVE/insurance authorization and payor process – for our autologous cell therapies, we have a standing meeting on the 4th Wednesday of the month to operationalize the workflow as well as general check ins.
- Operational and logistic teams with cross disciplinary teams– ad hoc with new therapies
- ONA meeting – discuss PMI Therapeutics, review team members roles, PMI support of research teams, and a review of our startup meeting series

Application & Selection Process (2026 - 2027)
- July 8, 2025 – Earliest date to submit an application for the 2026-2027 academic year
- September - November 2025 – Application review and interview invitations sent to applicant from program leadership.
- October - December 2025 – Fellowship interviews conducted, attend residency fairs
- January 2026 – Final application review and selection process
- February - March 2026 – Offer letters sent to selected candidates**
- April 2026 – Deadline for candidates to accept fellowship offers
Pre-Fellowship Preparation (2026)
- May - June 2026 – Onboarding process, credentialing, and orientation planning
- June 2026 – Final paperwork submission and institutional compliance training
Fellowship Training (2026 - 2028)
- July 8, 2026 – Fellowship officially begins
- July - December 2026 – Core clinical genetics rotations and precision medicine lab and didactic training
- January - June 2027 – Research and advanced clinical training
- June 30, 2027 – Fellowship completion
We are recruiting one fellow to join our program with a start date of July 8th, 2026. This position is being recruited outside of the NRMP match.

Denver
The Mile High City is nestled at the eastern base of the Rocky Mountains and is the largest city in the region with a population of 2.8 million. Denver enjoys one of the best climates in the country, with 300 days/year of sunny skies. Although it snows in the winter, the snow melts quickly and temperatures are usually moderate. Hot summer days give way to cool summer evenings.
The city is the home to dozens of highly rated restaurants and a vibrant nightlife. The city attracts many outdoor enthusiasts with its extensive system of hiking and bike trails and the largest city park system in the country.

Opportunities for outreach and telehealth care are also available. Consultation services to the Children’s Hospital Colorado, and regionally by phone, are routine. Fellows are trained in the Precision Diagnostics lab and clinical biochemical genetics laboratory at Children's Hospital Colorado.
