"Well-being leaders turn faculty feedback into action—building healthier, more supportive environments across the University of Colorado School of Medicine."
Departmental well-being leaders (WBLs) are appointed by their chairs to champion faculty well-being and professional fulfillment. Supported through a co-investment model between the University of Colorado School of Medicine (CU SOM) and individual departments, WBLs have protected time to inform, analyze, and share survey results, facilitate discussions, and design and implement action plans responsive to local needs. They also represent their departments in School of Medicine–wide efforts to enhance the faculty experience and serve as connectors to resources and programming. By fostering community, raising awareness of well-being tools, and advancing targeted initiatives, WBLs play a pivotal role in building a healthier, more supportive academic environment.

“From efficiency to mentorship, CU SOM departments are turning survey feedback into action.”
Faculty voices matter. Following the 2024 CU SOM Faculty and Resident/Fellow Well-Being Survey, each department has identified priorities and launched initiatives to strengthen well-being. Many departments are reducing EHR hassles and workflow inefficiencies to give faculty more time for meaningful work. Others are investing in mentorship, coaching, and professional development to support career growth and fulfillment. A strong focus has also been placed on peer support and community-building, particularly following adverse clinical events and through retreats or affinity groups. Together, these efforts reflect a shared commitment to creating a healthier, more supportive workplace for all faculty and trainees.
