Quality Improvement Partnerships

IHQSE ThriveQI: Quality Improvement with Workforce Impact

Why It Matters

Quality improvement isn’t only about patient outcomes—it’s also about the people who deliver care, advance discovery, and educate learners. Burnout and workload strain affect clinicians, researchers, and educators alike. IHQSE ThriveQI is a partnership with Institute for Healthcare Quality, Safety and Efficiency (IHQSE) to integrate workforce well-being into quality improvement projects, ensuring we measure not just clinical outcomes but also the impact on those doing the work.

IHQSE ThriveQI reflects CU Anschutz School of Medicine's commitment to investing in people, advancing improvement science, and setting a national example in redesigning healthcare work for both quality and well-being.

How it Works

Step 1: Participate in the IHQSE Certificate Training Program (CTP)

Teams begin by joining the IHQSE Certificate Training Program, which is a structured program for quality improvement projects focused on improving efficiency, reducing stress, or strengthening workplace culture.

Step 2: Learn About Workforce Well-being

All CTP participants receive training on how to measure workforce well-being and explore the role of leadership in building thriving teams.

Step 3: Selection of ThriveQI Teams

From the full pool of CTP participants, 3–5 teams each year are selected for ThriveQI, a specialized track that provides enhanced support focused on workforce well-being and team culture.

Step 4: ThriveQI Coaching & Analytics Support

Selected ThriveQI teams receive:

  • 1:1 coaching from CU Thrive well-being mentors
  • Access to survey and data analysis experts
  • A practical Well-Being Measurement Resource Handbook
