Program Objective

To investigate the

1. Biology of cancer cells in tumorigenesis, progression, and therapeutic resistance in melanoma.

2. Genotyping melanoma tumors for somatic mutations.

3. Melanoma and squamous cell carcinoma biomarkers for the diagnosis and prediction of disease progression, treatment response.

4. RNA desiccation, expression profiling.

5. Whole genome/exome sequencing for next generation molecular studies.

Program Description

The main focus of our current research is:

1. To characterize melanoma tumors for somatic mutations

2. To study biological roles of several inflammatory cytokines (particularly IL-1, IL-37 and AAT) in the progression of human malignant melanoma

3. Annotate plasma, serum, WBC, DNA and RNA samples

4. To identify melanoma-related and host response-related biomarker profiling from blood/tumor from melanoma, squamous cell, and basal cell cancer patients
