Program Objective

The primary goal of my lab is to define the role of the p53 tumor suppressor pathway in development and tumorigenesis. As for tumoringenesis, we are using murine models that carry different p53 mutations and assessing the impact of these mutations on tumor initiation, progression and metastasis.

A second major goal of the lab is to uncover the molecular mechanisms underlying pigmentary disorders like vitiligo and giant congenital nevi (GCN). Vitiligo and GCN are disfiguring and sometimes devastating diseases that affect people of all races and socioeconomic levels. We are generating xenografted mouse models to study targeted therapies for these pigmentary disorders.

Program Description

Techniques routinely used in the lab include mouse husbandry and necropsies, routine molecular biology, quantitative PCR, microscopy, immunohistochemistry, immunocytochemistry, tissue culture, grafting and virus production.
