Program Objective

The overall goal of this project is to understand the role of epigenomics in estrogen receptor function in invasive lobular carcinoma of the breast.

Description

The student will utilize tissue culture and cell biology techniques to study how estrogen receptor co-regulator proteins control histone modification, chromatin structure, and access of critical transcription factors to the genome. Molecular approaches routinely used include gene knockdown, gene expression analyses by quantitative-PCR, chromatin immunoprecipitation, and immunoblotting. The student will be trained in the laboratory protocols, standard procedures, and functional assays required by this project. The student will also learn the broader context our lab's research, in working to understand the biology of lobular carcinoma as an understudied subtype of breast cancer.​​​
