Spanish Translation Support to CU Anschutz Cancer Center Investigators and Research Teams

The Office of Community Outreach and Engagement (COE) is dedicated to supporting CU Anschutz Cancer Center investigators by improving the reach of research across the communities we serve. As part of this mission, we provide high-quality, professional English-to-Spanish translations of cancer-related research materials at no cost to investigators. Please note that this is not “fee-for-service” but support that COE provides based on our resources’ availability/capacity.

We are giving priority to cancer-related clinical trials that align with the primary focus areas for our catchment area (Colorado): lung, colorectal, and breast cancer. Clinical trials involving other cancer types are still welcome; however, they will be reviewed on a case‑by‑case basis and considered for acceptance depending on staffing capacity. We also require that you provide us with a brief outline of your plans to engage underrepresented Spanish-speakers, besides providing translated documents alone.

We provide English-to-Spanish translations of a wide range of cancer-related research materials, including but not limited to (~20 pages maximum):

• Full informed consent forms.
• Short forms, scripts.
• Surveys, questionnaires, etc.
• Drug or symptom diaries.
• Recruitment and outreach materials.
• Participant information sheets and instructions.

To ensure this resource is directed to studies aligned with our mission, English-to-Spanish translation support is available for studies that meet all of the following criteria:

Eligibility Criteria

• The Clinical Trial is conducted by a CU Anschutz Cancer Center investigator;
• The Clinical trial is cancer‑related and a priority for the catchment area (lung, colorectal, and breast cancer);
• The Clinical trial is an Investigator‑Initiated Trial (IIT) (not industry‑sponsored or industry‑funded).

How to Submit a Spanish Translation Request

If your clinical trial meets these requirements, the COE Office is ready to support you to ensure your research materials are linguistically and culturally appropriate for Spanish‑speaking participants.

When you are ready to submit your request, please fill out this form. A team member will review your request and follow up with the expected turnaround time and any additional information needed.

Please also note that the standard turnaround time is approximately two (2) weeks; however, this timeframe may vary depending on the team’s capacity and current workload.

Lastly, as part of our commitment to continuous quality improvement, a follow‑up survey will be sent approximately six (6) months after your translation project is completed. The purpose of this follow-up survey is to gather feedback on the usefulness, clarity, and overall impact of the translated research materials on the enrollment of Spanish-speaking patients in your Clinical trial.

Your insights will help us:

• Evaluate the impact of the Spanish translations of cancer-related research materials in the enrollment of Spanish-speaking participants in Clinical Trials conducted by CU Anschutz Cancer Center Investigators;
• Identify areas for improvement; and
• Sustain efforts to effectively address and fulfill our catchment area priorities.
