We stand in solidarity with those against racial and social injustice, and recognize that we still have a lot of work to do to increase diversity, equity and inclusion throughout our department, our institution, and academia at large. The DEAR recruitment subcommittee is committed to addressing these inequities at every level within our department by implementing several new initiatives to increase the number of scientists from historically marginalized and underrepresented groups. We also recognize that recruitment is just the first step towards dismantling inequity and are actualizing steps and funding opportunities with transparent evaluation practices to foster a supportive environment that ensures retention of diverse scientists.
We will continually strive to create a department that is diverse, equitable, and deliberately anti-racist while promoting a culture that is inclusive, compassionate and respectful. Please come back and visit this website to see how we’re doing, and if you have any suggestions or comments feel free to contact us: subcommittee chairs Madeline Sherlock and Evan Morrison.
