Dr. Gutierrez is a clinical associate professor of internal medicine at the University of Iowa, interim director of the Division of Hospital Medicine, and the director of the National TeleHospital Medicine Enterprise-Wide Initiative for the Veterans Health Administration. She has led the development and expansion of the VHA TeleHospital Medicine Program, securing over $10 million in funding over 5 years and building a team that has served 12 rural VA hospitals nationwide. Her research and publications focus on telehealth innovation, alcohol use disorder, rural health, and implementation science. She has been recognized with multiple awards, including the Iowa ACP Laureate Award, for her leadership in advancing hospital medicine and expanding access to high-quality care for underserved populations.
