COURSE RECAP
Remember the "job" you have now has a different scope and focus.
- You must move from having your patients as the object of your attention to "others", both physicians and other staff as your focus.
- These people may be professional peers.
- Has your attention changed to focus on the organization and the community you serve, not just your patients?
The skills that got you here professionally are not necessarily going to help you as a leader.
- Are you conscious of the move away from technical/clinical skill to facilitation/engagement and motivation of others?
You are tasked to be not simply a clinician advocate, but also to support the larger organizational objectives.
- How do you think these fit together?
- Recognize that you need to advocate for the organization, even if it means not supporting the clinicians.
The "work" to be done, when done well, is accomplished mostly by others whom you lead, facilitate and mentor.
- It's about getting things done, with and through other people.
Almost all of leadership is about effectively managing relationships.
- Remember the leadership equation: Leadership = Vision + Tasks + Relationships
