Stroke Team Recipients of Peak Performer Award

Fecci, Peter

Welcome from Department Chair, Peter Fecci, MD, PhD

Welcome to the Department of Neurosurgery at the University of Colorado Anschutz! I am thrilled to share that neurosurgery at CU Anschutz is amidst a time of exciting change and rapid growth that now afford clinical, research, and educational opportunities unlike any other time in the department’s history. We constitute the largest academic neurosurgery department for an area encompassing seven states, making us a destination center for every mode of neurosurgical care.

Currently, the department encompasses a plethora of clinical care sites, including four teaching institutions: University Hospital, the Colorado VA Medical Center, Denver Health, and Colorado Children's Hospital, perennially ranked a top 10 pediatric hospital in the U.S.

CU has nearly $1 billion in research funding, making it a top institution in Blue Ridge, and we are the #12 academic institution in health sciences per the Nature Index. We are likewise ranked #15 globally in innovation. Our department encompasses world-class research programs flaunting dozens of papers in nature, science, and cell journals.

The 225-acre CU Anschutz campus is truly a state-of-the-art playground for clinical care, research, education, and innovation. The neurosurgical faculty possesses comprehensive expertise spanning across every subspecialty and includes neuro-intensivists, neuropsychologists, neuro-oncologists, and a cadre of PhD scientists making constant advancements, particularly in the arenas of neuromodulation and neuro-oncology.

Within the department are nine programs of excellence, offering unrivaled educational opportunities for our residents and fellows. Our residency program, aimed at training tomorrow’s neurosurgery leaders, includes opportunities to further develop interests and expertise in advanced neurosurgical techniques, critical care, innovation, education, and basic and clinical sciences, including a recently created physician-scientist track.

At the University of Colorado Anschutz, we are dedicated to providing state-of-the-art care and advances not only to the patients of Colorado, but to the Mountain West region and the entire nation. On behalf of our entire department, we are glad you're here.
