Gastroenterology and Hepatology Research and Clinical Trials

Overview

The mission of Gastroenterology Research at the University of Colorado is to contribute to the development of new understandings, treatments and cures for diseases in Gastroenterology and Hepatology.

The University of Colorado is the Rocky Mountain region's only academic medical center, and has been recognized as one of America's best hospitals, according to U.S. News & World Report. At CU, we conduct widespread clinical trials in our continuing effort to discover more effective treatments and cures. These trials have led to significant breakthroughs in numerous areas.

The work of the staff in Gastroenterology Research at UCD is governed by values of:

  • Patient safety
  • Patient confidentiality
  • Accurate and ethical data collection

What is a Clinical Trial?

A clinical trial (also called clinical research or research study) is a study in human volunteers to answer specific health questions. Clinical trials are the fastest and safest way to find treatments that work to improve health.

Why Participate in a Clinical Trial?

Participants in clinical trials can play a more active role in their own health care, gain access to new research treatments before they are widely available, and help others by contributing to medical research.

Benefits of Participating in a Clinical Trial

Clinical trials allow people to:

  • Play an active role in their health care.
  • Gain access to new research treatments before they are widely available.
  • Obtain expert medical care at a leading health care facility during the trial.
  • Help people in the future by contributing to medical research.
