In 1993, A. R. "Bob" Martin retired from the Chair of Physiology, a position which he had held since 1970 (23 years). The Department and Medical School sponsored a one-day Symposium in his honor. That evening, a gala banquet was held, and the creation of the A. R. Martin Lectureship in Physiology was announced.
The A.R. Martin Lectureship is an annual two-day event for the Department of Physiology and Biophysics with an invited guest lecturer.
Day 1 consists of faculty breakfast, meetings, and The A.R. Martin Lecture—a broad-scope talk, adapted for a wide scientific audience.
Day 2 includes "Chalk Talk" presentations by advanced graduate students and postdoc trainees as well as a second talk by that year's invited lecturer, followed by a lunch with the students.
