Graduate student Karlin Rufenacht has been appointed as a predoctoral trainee on the NIH NRSA T32DC012280, "Institutional Training in Otolaryngology Research." Karlin's research proposal focuses on understanding the mechanisms of olfactory stimulation induced, selective changes in olfactory sensory neurogenesis. Karlin will also work with a clinical mentor, Dr. Ashoke Khanwalkar, to gain a thorough understanding of the impact of olfactory disorders on the quality-of-life of patients and the state of current medical interventions these patients are offered through shadowing in the clinic and operating room.
