Education Journals

CBE – Life Sciences Education

CBE—Life Sciences Education (LSE) is a free, online quarterly journal published by the American Society for Cell Biology (ASCB). LSE publishes peer-reviewed articles on life science education at the K–12, undergraduate, and graduate levels. The ASCB believes that learning in biology encompasses diverse fields, including math, chemistry, physics, engineering, computer science, and the interdisciplinary intersections of biology with these fields. Within biology, LSE focuses on how students are introduced to the study of life sciences, as well as approaches in cell biology, developmental biology, neuroscience, biochemistry, molecular biology, genetics, genomics, bioinformatics, and proteomics.

International Journal of STEM Education

The International Journal of STEM Education is a multidisciplinary journal in subject-content education that focuses on the study of teaching and learning in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). It provides a unique platform for sharing research regarding, among other topics, the design and implementation of technology-rich learning environments, innovative pedagogies, and curricula in STEM education that promote successful learning. We are also interested in studies that address specific challenges in improving students’ achievement, approaches used to motivate and engage students, and lessons learned from changes in curriculum and instruction in STEM education. The journal encourages translational STEM education research that bridges research and educational policy

Journal of Microbiology and Biology Education

As ASM’s first open access education journal, the Journal of Microbiology & Biology Education (JMBE) offers original, previously unpublished, peer-reviewed articles that foster scholarly teaching, and provide readily adoptable resources in biology education at the undergraduate, graduate, professional (e.g., medical school), K-12 outreach, and informal education level. JMBE is edited by informed science educators who are active in the pursuit of scholarly teaching and biology education reform.

Biochemistry and Molecular Biology Education

Biochemistry and Molecular Biology Education is an international journal aimed to enhance teacher preparation and student learning in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, and related sciences such as Biophysics and Cell Biology, by promoting the world-wide dissemination of educational materials.

Journal of Diversity in Higher Education

Journal of Diversity in Higher Education largely publishes empirical research focused on issues related to diversity, equity, and inclusion in post-secondary environments. Manuscripts address the experiences and outcomes of individuals from underrepresented and underserved communities, focusing on institutional barriers and challenges, patterns of access and achievement, and the impact of engaging with diverse students, faculty, and administrators. The journal also explores issues related to teaching and learning, policy development and implementation, and leadership and organizational change in diverse learning environments. The journal is committed to publishing work that supports efforts to transform institutions, inspire colleagues, engage campus, governmental, and private sector leaders, and articulate culturally competent outcomes.

Course Source

CourseSource is an open-access journal of peer-reviewed teaching resources for college biological and physics science courses. A key feature of CourseSource is the alignment of articles with scientific professional society developed learning goals and objectives.

Fostered by reports such as BIO 2010: Transforming Undergraduate Education for Future Research Biologists, Vision and Change in Undergraduate Biology Education: A Call to Action and, most recently, Engaged to Excel: Producing One Million Additional College Graduates with Degrees in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics, changes in the way colleges and universities are approaching their undergraduate STEM courses can be observed nation-wide. Change has come in the form of initiatives dedicated to advancing evidence-based science education practices, research-based undergraduate courses and programs like the Summer Institutes on Scientific Teaching that aim to provide educators with the tools and strategies needed to transform their classrooms into best practices based ones. These efforts have spawned a growing number of educators and administrators interested in transforming their STEM classrooms and departments into student-centered, evidence-based, more effective learning environments that will produce the next generation of scientists.

MedEdPORTAL

MedEdPORTAL is a MEDLINE-indexed, open-access journal of teaching and learning resources in the health professions published by the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC), in partnership with the American Dental Education Association. MedEdPORTAL publications are stand-alone, complete teaching or learning modules that have been implemented and evaluated with medical or dental trainees or practitioners.
