On March 5, the Annual Scholarship Reception was held at the home of alumna Joanne Posner-Mayer, bringing students, members of the CU Anschutz community, board members and donors together. 

Posner-Mayer, Class of 1973, has been a leader in establishing scholarship programs for the CU Physical Therapy Program. These scholarships for physical therapy students have been key in recruiting high-quality students and have helped to boost diversity in the program. We are grateful to Posner-Mayer and others who support our students and program with these scholarships!

In its 5th year, the scholarship reception is a wonderful opportunity for students to express gratitude and share their backgrounds with many who have helped make their scholarship possible. Class of 2018 scholarship recipients Phillip Turner and Abigail Chris discussed their inspiration for pursuing physical therapy and personal stories with those in attendance. 

Claire Zwaan, Class of 2020 and recipient of the Joanne Posner-Mayer Dance Performing Arts and Rehabilitation Scholarship noted, “This contribution to my education is a vast help to the financial burden of physical therapy school and will allow me to focus on my education instead of working part time.”

“Movement is essential to our functionality and liveliness as humans and I look forward to bettering society and the performing arts community by offering my care. The generosity of scholarship will allow me to give back to a community which has supported and shaped me my entire life,” she added.

Over the years, the number of scholarship awards has increased tremendously, thanks to the generous support of donors and CU Medicine. In just two years, the program’s scholarship offerings have increased by 135%. We hope to continually increase our financial assistance in order to encourage and support a competitive and diverse student body and reduce the financial burden of physical therapy education.
