Senior Clinical Instructor
  • Physical Therapy (SOM)

Dr. Zaffarano earned his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of California, San Diego, and later completed his Doctor of Physical Therapy at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus in 2016. Following graduation, he pursued intensive clinical training through a year-long internship spanning neurologic, oncologic, and orthopedic rehabilitation settings before transitioning to outpatient orthopedics. In 2021, he independently prepared for and attained the Orthopedic Clinical Specialist designation. Dr. Zaffarano completed his Fellowship in Orthopedic Manual Physical Therapy at Bellin College in 2024, where he developed advanced skills in clinical reasoning and gained experience teaching within hybrid learning environments.

He currently divides his professional efforts between clinical practice and academia. His teaching focuses on the management of musculoskeletal conditions within hybrid Doctor of Physical Therapy programs, while his clinical work emphasizes interprofessional, team-based care in an outpatient hospital setting. Dr. Zaffarano’s scholarly interests include integrating metacognitive principles into entry-level and post-professional education to address cognitive biases and heuristics in clinical decision-making. He is also deeply engaged in studying the influence of exercise prescription—both acute and chronic—on allostatic load, resilience, and contemporary endurance training models.
