Ambulatory Rapid Response Team

The Ambulatory Rapid Response Team is focused on improving patient care, better supporting our outpatient colleagues, and reducing healthcare costs and delays in care.

Deployed in 2019, the Ambulatory Rapid Response Team responds to medical emergencies in clinics and common areas throughout the Anschutz Medical Campus. An innovative partnership, the service is staffed by our Division’s advanced practice providers (APPs) who respond in conjunction with Emergency Department nurses to more than 300 calls per year.

The team can care for all acutely ill patients and carries supplies for patient transport, vital sign monitoring, and rapidly acting interventions (including ACLS). The Ambulatory Rapid Response Team has virtually eliminated 911 calls from the Anschutz Medical Campus and reduced turnaround time for transport to the Emergency Department (ED). Importantly, because of the high-level skills of our APPs, patients are often able to be sent home without a costly ED visit.

The team is available Monday through Friday from 7AM-7PM for medical emergencies in Anschutz Outpatient Pavilion, Anschutz Cancer Pavilion, the Rocky Mountain Lions Eye Institute, and the Leprino Building.
