AY 2024-2025

Hometown: Glencoe, MN

Residency: Internal Medicine Residency at CU Anschutz

More info to come soon!

I just graduated from residency at University of Colorado where I was in the hospitalist track and clinical educator pathway. During this upcoming year as a Clinical Scholar, I hope to sharpen my clinical acumen in general internal medicine and improve my skills as a researcher and medical educator before hopefully starting hematology/oncology fellowship in July 2025. Within the field of heme/onc, I am most interested in heme malignancies, and would love to work on a bone marrow transplant unit and have my own outpatient patient panel. I plan for research and medical education to be important parts of my career, so I am excited to spend this year engaging in both topics.

Outside of the hospital, I compete in beach ("sand" in Colorado) volleyball tournaments and spend most days training to get better at some facet of the game. I also love basketball and after growing up in Northern California, I derive a lot of joy from watching Steph Curry hit three pointers. Besides sports, I enjoy cooking every recipe in a cookbook, reading memoirs, and spending time with my fiancée and three cats.

I grew up in a small town in Northern Arizona on the Navajo Nation. My path has taken me from all corners of the country and world to Denver, CO where I hope to work as a hospitalist expanding his toolkit with POCUS training and a deeper understanding of clinical reasoning.  I have some research and quality improvement history but am hoping to pursue my interest of utilization of the electronic health record to improve outcomes in common diagnosis such as with EPIC order sets and dot phrases. I was previously at the University of Washington as an academic hospitalist where I was able to work with learners of all levels and hope to continue building myself as an educator here in Denver.

My hobbies include lazing around at home with my wife, exploring the outdoors when we muster the energy, searching for that perfect breakfast burrito and making honey wine which I have found to be far more successful than making beer. My wife and I are planning on expanding our family to include a dog this coming year once we figure out how.

I am a recent graduate of University of California, San Diego residency in Internal Medicine, excited to develop in a hospital system known for advancements in QI and high value care. My professional interests include QI projects geared toward reducing risk and medical errors, and increasing the efficiency of practitioners using automation. I entered medicine from an engineering background, and one of my goals is to serve as a bridge and collaborator between technologists and clinical practice.  Another area of interest is preventative medicine, which was the focus of my research endeavors during residency. I also love working with learners as I find it both highly fulfilling and educational for refining my practice.

Outside of medicine, I find great joy in seeing natural sights, hiking, biking, and moving around. I pursue backpacking trips regularly, fish, and enjoy getting off the grid. Over the past 2 years I have developed an expensive but gratifying habit for golf. I hope to build on all of these hobbies here in Denver.

My name is Jenny Santos and I’m excited to be joining the Clinical Scholars Program for this academic year. I am originally from Baltimore, Maryland but have been living in Colorado for the past three years as I recently completed my internal medicine residency at the University of Colorado. I am interested in pursuing hematology/oncology fellowship, so my academic interests mostly lie within this realm. However, I will always enjoy the problem solving and critical thinking that general inpatient medicine requires. I also find the hospital setting fascinating because it allows us the privilege of caring for patients of diverse backgrounds that we may not otherwise meet. My current research interests involve questioning how to administer current chemotherapy regimens with less toxicity and learning how to better risk stratify patient cohorts.

Outside of medicine, I am a cat-obsessed amateur gardener. My indoor/outdoor cat, Mac, helps to keep the bunnies and squirrels far away from my backyard garden, currently growing arugula, tomatoes, basil, and green beans. Like most Coloradans, I enjoy being outside. I can usually be found running, hiking, biking (often to a brewery with my husband), or skiing in the winter months.
