The CARE (Clinical Assessment and Rapid Evaluation) Clinic at the University of Colorado Cancer Center is an Advanced Practice Provider (APP) led clinic that provides intensive symptom-management and urgent care services for solid tumor oncology patients at the University of Colorado Hospital. Oncology patients often experience complex symptoms including pain, fatigue and nausea, often resulting in numerous trips to the emergency department or admissions to the hospital. The goal of the CARE clinic is to provide oncology patients with a cost-effective alternative to the emergency department while undergoing cancer treatment.
The CARE
clinic aims to improve delivery of cancer
care through a proactive and patient-centered approach to complex symptom
management and through providing same-day urgent care services tailored to the
unique needs of oncology patients. The clinic is staffed by APPs
Oncology and Hospital Medicine, representing a first of its kind collaboration
between these two divisions. APPs have advanced training in both oncology and
internal medicine, which allows patients to receive individualized,
patient-centered care.
