The one-year Global Health Hospital Medicine Scholars Program aims to train future hospitalist-leaders for careers in resource-limited and underserved settings. Scholars will pursue a total of six months of international work, in combination with six months at our tertiary care academic center in Aurora, Colorado. The program will provide training in health care delivery to resource-limited settings, quality and system improvement, cultural competency, teaching skills, and leadership. The program is geared toward internal medicine graduates who plan to pursue career paths in global health and underserved populations in academic medicine.
Current international practice sites include Zimbabwe, Nepal, and Guatemala. While abroad, scholars are encouraged to conduct clinical research related to new or ongoing projects at their site(s) of interest. They will participate in regular teleconferences with mentors to discuss clinical and research questions. While at CU-Anschutz, scholars will be active in clinical hospitalist work, as well as teaching within the internal medicine residency and underserved pathway.
Scholars will have access to the wide range of global health-related resources at CU-Anschutz, including the Center for Global Health, the School of Public Health, and a wide range of faculty within the School of Medicine who are involved in international clinical work and research.
