New Services Coming to the Division of Hospital Medicine
Oct 3, 2022New CARE Clinic to Support Oncology Service
The CARE (Clinical Assessment and Rapid Evaluation) Clinic at the University of Colorado Cancer Center is an Advanced Practice Provider (APP) led clinic that provides intensive symptom-management and urgent care services for solid tumor oncology patients at the University of Colorado Hospital. Oncology patients often experience complex symptoms including pain, fatigue and nausea, often resulting in numerous trips to the emergency department or admissions to the hospital. The goal of the CARE clinic is to provide oncology patients with a cost-effective alternative to the emergency department while undergoing cancer treatment. The CARE clinic aims to improve delivery of cancer care through a proactive and patient-centered approach to complex symptom management and through providing same-day urgent care services tailored to the unique needs of oncology patients. The clinic is staffed by APPs Oncology and Hospital Medicine, representing a first of its kind collaboration between these two divisions. APPs have advanced training in both oncology and internal medicine, which allows patients to receive individualized, patient-centered care.
Med-Peds Service Coming to #CUDHM
We are excited to announce the upcoming launch of a new Med-Peds Consult Service! The overarching goal ofthe service is to improve the care of the adolescent and young adult population hospitalized at Children’s
Hospital Colorado (CHCO) and UCHealth University of Colorado Hospital (UCH). At UCH, patients under age 18 are admitted with some frequency, as are complex young adult patients with chronic conditions of childhood.
For these patients, the Med-Peds Consult Service hopes to provide age and disease-specific recommendations to primary teams and nursing staff, help communicate with outpatient providers and relevant consulting services at CHCO, and facilitate transitions of care. The service, which will tentatively start on January 3rd, 2023, will be funded by the Medicaid Supplemental Funding Program (UPL) and will be available to consult Monday to Friday during daytime hours. It will be staffed by Med-Peds-trained physicians and will have the ability to consult on both adult patients admitted to CHCO as well as pediatric and young adult patients admitted to UCH during the same business day.
