Q&A
Sep 27, 2024Dr. Hemali Patel is an associate professor at the Division of Hospital Medicine at CU Anschutz. She recently published an article on NPJ Digital Medicine about integrating technology into patient care. This research explored UCHealth’s journey in creating a centralized hub to harness innovative digital health solutions. To learn more about #CUDHM hospitalist, Dr. Patel, we asked a few questions on her research and what we can expect to see from her in the future!
Q: Tell me about the research project on integrating technology into patient care. Where did the idea come from?
A: We have a remote command center providing clinical programming to augment bedside care for patients across the care continuum. There are only a handful of programs across the country and we have had some great outcomes so we wanted to share this with the wider community who may be considering doing something similar. I'm looking forward to disseminating the work to help other communities make a difference in their patients’ lives.
Q: What are you working on now/what can we expect from you in the future?
A: We have many projects in our pipeline: virtual primary care, virtual transitions of care, scaling our virtual hospitalist program to other hospitals, expanding our home and remote care programming (where we use wearables to capture biometric and patient symptoms data to help patients with their chronic illnesses and/or post-discharge monitoring).
