Celebrating Success at our March SHM POCUS Course, Rocky Mountain Chapter

In March, we held our first Point-of-Care Ultrasound (POCUS) Course of the year where individuals had the opportunity to learn hands-on ultrasound skills from experts in the field. This course brought in 45 learners from all over the U.S. to receive 16 CME credits over the course of two days. This course satisfies the POCUS hospitalist course requirement for the Society of Hospital Medicine (SHM) POCUS certificate of completion program. Participants received didactics evidenced based application of the highest yield POCUS exams used in inpatient medicine environments. In addition, they practiced their skills in image acquisition, interpretation, and clinical integration of POCUS findings through hours of hand-on scanning and interactive image review sessions supervised by expert faculty who are national leaders in Hospital medicine POCUS.

Benjamin T. Galen, MD, FACP, FHM
Dr. Galen is currently the Director of Ultrasound and Procedure training as well as Assistant Director of Firm 3 and Associate Program Director in The Einstein/Montefiore Internal Medicine Residency Program. He has led hundreds of resident teaching conferences and has worked to formalize curricula for point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) and bedside procedures, such as lumbar puncture (LP).
Ricardo Franco-Sadud, MD
Dr. Franco-Sadud is a pioneer in the area of Hospital Medicine POCUS, having co-directed SHM POCUS precourse for over a decade. He is an expert in both diagnostic and procedural POCUS use and has founded and directed robust POCUS and Procedural programs at multiple institutions.
Gregory Mints, MD
Dr. Gregory Mints is board certified in internal medicine and clinical educator. His academic interests and expertise include physical diagnosis, bedside ultrasonography, medical education, and evidence-based medicine. He co-directs the Weill Cornell POCUS program.
Tanping Wong, MD
Dr. Tanping Wong is a hospitalist who is board certified in internal medicine, with an academic focus in medical education. Dr. Wong directs a robust POCUS program at Weill Cornell in which she trains resident, fellows, and faculty both locally and nationally.

He is known as a master clinician with extensive expertise in diagnostic reasoning, diagnostic error, and point of care ultrasound.
