When Your Coverage Ends
Your University-sponsored health, dental, and vision benefits remain active through the last day of the month in which your employment ends.
Continue Coverage Through COBRA
If you were enrolled in a University medical, dental, or vision plan immediately before your employment ended, you may be eligible to continue that coverage through COBRA. COBRA allows you to keep the same coverage for a limited period by paying the full premium. Continuation coverage may be available for up to 18 months, depending on eligibility. COBRA is managed by a third-party vendor ASI (1-877-388-8331).

What to Expect
- A COBRA election packet will be mailed to your home address within the first two weeks of the month following the end of your health, dental, and vision coverage.
- Because COBRA eligibility cannot be processed until your active coverage has ended, the packet cannot be issued before your coverage termination date.
- The packet will include enrollment instructions, premium rates, important election deadlines, and confirmation of the termination of your University health, dental, and vision coverage. You may also use this notification as proof of loss of coverage when enrolling in another insurance plan.
If You Need Care Before Enrolling
You do not need to wait for the COBRA packet to receive care. If you elect COBRA coverage and pay the required premiums within the election period, your coverage will be reinstated retroactively to the date your active coverage ended. Any eligible claims incurred during the transition period can be reprocessed or submitted for reimbursement once coverage is reinstated.
Other Coverage Options
In addition to COBRA, you may qualify for:
- Coverage through a spouse's or partner's employer-sponsored plan.
- Coverage through the federal Health Insurance Marketplace (www.healthcare.gov).
- Other individual insurance options available in your state.
