The Biobank is Beginning to Return Results
Feb 22, 2022
The Biobank is beginning to return some genetic results to eligible participants who have signed the appropriate consent form and provided a blood sample that has been processed.
What kind of results are you returning?
There are three types of results that we may be able to return:
- Results that predict how you may respond to certain medicines
- Results that may predict your risk of developing certain types of cancer, heart disease and other disease
- Results that may predict your risk of developing liver disease and blood clots
It is important to remember that not all participants will get results and that the Biobank is not testing for mutations (or variations) in all genes that predict response to medicines or risk of disease. For more information about the types of genetic results that we are returning, view the Return of Results webpage.
How do I know if I am eligible to receive results? You are eligible to receive results if you signed a Biobank consent form after September 2019 that allows us to return results to you. If you signed an earlier version of the consent, you are able update your consent form if you choose.
How can I update my consent form? The updated consent has more information about the study purpose, our partners with whom we share data, and the possibility of having results returned to you. You can read and update your consent form by logging onto your My Health Connection portal at UCHealth, go to Menu, scroll down to Resources, and then click on Research Opportunities.
If you are using the UCHealth phone app, go to the Menu bars on top right, click on Tools, and then click on Research Opportunities.
If you choose not to update your consent, you are still enrolled in the Biobank, although we will not return any results to you. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact us by phone at 303-724-9944 or email: ccpm-biobank@ucdenver.edu.
