Zachary Noriega, MPA | Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation/CU School of Medicine Mar 14, 2024CU PM&R extends a sincere thank you to our outgoing Chief Residents, and wishes them the very best as they embark on the next phase of their medical careers! Today we are spotlighting outgoing Chief Resident Dr. Lindsay Burke.
What made you want to pursue a career in Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation?
Going into my medical training, I was looking to specialize in a field that valued continuity of care and a holistic approach to healthcare. I was drawn to the unique philosophy of PM&R during my rotations as a medical student. Helping patients return to their highest level of function and the activities they enjoy is what motivates me.
What made you want to choose CU PM&R for residency?
I fell in love with this program during my interview day. The camaraderie amongst the faculty and residents and excitement about the field of PM&R was contagious. It was clear to me that this department is passionate about moving the field of physiatry forward and I wanted to be a part of that progress. Fun fact – I actually met my future co-chief Deanna Claus along the interview trail!
How would you describe your time as a resident at CU PM&R?
I have learned so much throughout my time at CU on both a professional and personal level. This department is incredibly supportive and has fostered my growth as a physician and teammate. I truly believe the training we receive at this program is unparalleled and the fact that you are surrounded by truly amazing people has made the experience even more special.
How would you describe your experience as chief residents? What skills have you developed from this journey?
Serving as chief resident has been such an incredible honor and I am so thankful to my co-residents for electing me to this position. Learning from our program leadership, gaining deeper insight into the workings of our department, and understanding the nuances of running a residency program has been a valuable experience. Throughout this year, I honed my leadership, problem solving, and teamwork skills.
What are your goals after you complete residency at CU?
Next year I will complete a Sports & Spine Fellowship at Hospital for Special Surgery in New York City.
