Dr. Akuthota, chair of the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, was part of team of specialists who assisted Patrick Gaines recover and thrive despite chronic pain. While Akuthota couldn’t offer a miracle cure for the nerve damage Patrick had suffered, he did ask a critical question. “He said, ‘I know you’re in pain. Tell me about your life before this happened.’” Patrick uses intense physical activity to overcome his pain.
