BMAC is aspirated out of your iliac crest (by your hip) with a small needle and then spun down to concentrate the proteins and healing factors. The iliac crest has the highest concentration of stem cells in your body.
Dr. Jamieson typically uses BMAC for procedures that involve repair of damaged cartilage in a joint.
PRP is obtained from a simple blood draw which is then spun down to concentrate the growth factors and anti-inflammatory proteins.
Dr. Jamieson may recommend this for persistent pain related to tendon issues (Achilles tendinitis, plantar fasciitis, etc.)
Both are examples of regenerative medicine or the idea that your body has the ability to heal itself. By injecting concentrated healing cells from your own body you are able to heal a variety of injuries and conditions.
Insurance typically does not cover the cost of these procedures:
One injection= $950 out of pocket (at the time of surgery)
Bilateral (both sides) injections= $1,050 out of pocket cost
