Celebrating 5 Years with our DHM Data and Analytics Team
Jan 23, 2023Within the Division of Hospital Medicine, we are always looking for ways to improve, to better our processes, and to create an environment that supports thriving teams. We are uniquely positioned for just that with the help of our DHM Data and Analytics team. We started building this team in 2018 and have since grown the team to four strong analysts.
Meet the Team
Angela Keniston, MSPH
Angela completed her MS in Public Health at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center in 2005, now pursuing a PhD in Health Information Technology. Since 2018, her role as the Director of Data and Analytics for CUDHM includes research design, data collection, management, and analysis, qualitative and quantitative methods, mixed methods approaches, user-centered design, and interested partner engagement planning and execution. She’s passionate about the information technology design to improve quality of care for the hospitalized patient while supporting the clinicians delivering care. Lauren McBeth, BA
Lauren received her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology with a Neuroscience concentration from Concordia College in Moorhead, MN in 2012. Lauren joined the DHM Data and Analytics team in July 2018 and in her role as a Data Analyst she supports a wide range of projects focused on compiling and analyzing both quantitative and qualitative data for the purposes of improving care in the inpatient setting. Lauren’s areas of expertise include survey design and development, CU Data reporting, COMIRB regulatory submissions, Epic reporting, and qualitative design, implementation, and analysis.
Eric Grimm, BS
Eric received a Bachelor of Science in Biology in 2013 and a Master of Science in Epidemiology in 2015. Eric began working as a Data Analyst in the DHM in April 2020 and supports projects through data organization and management, quantitative analysis, and dashboard development. Eric is enthusiastic about acquiring insights from data that can be used to help improve the quality of patient care for hospitalized patients and support the work of clinicians. He is especially interested in communicating information through data visualizations and analyzing data.
Sarah Mann, MA
Sarah earned her undergraduate BS in Psychology from Millikin University in 2016 and subsequently earned her MA in Research Methods and Statistics from DU in 2021. Her professional background in gifted and special education, psychology and social work has provided her with a wide range of professional research experiences in both the qualitative and quantitative realms. Sarah has been with the DHM since 2022 and is passionate about using mixed methods research methodologies to enhance context in research findings. Her research interests include investigating social determinants of health and improving the social-emotional wellbeing of hospitalists.
Data Team Accomplishments
In just five years’ time, this team of enthusiastic, highly skilled, and dedicated analysts have transformed the Division of Hospital Medicine from an operational perspective and been instrumental in the growth of our academic and research programs. This team was created to drive outstanding clinical outcomes, support quality improvement efforts, build best practices for clinical operations, and pair these efforts with our scholarship, educational, and research missions. This model we created is unique: an embedded data and analytics team within a Division of Hospital Medicine that focuses on each of the core mission areas including clinical excellence, quality, operations, research and scholarship. In just this past year, the team has worked with 53 faculty and staff both internal to DHM and external to DHM on 79 different projects, resulting in 13 abstracts presented at a national conferences, 15 peer-reviewed publications, and 7 grant applications. We have also launched a growing library of PowerBI dashboards to support the research, educational, quality, safety, and operational missions of the Division of Hospital Medicine.
We are so thankful for this wonderful team of individuals and look forward to seeing what they are capable of in 2023!
