Design and deliver high-quality learning experiences 

This mission area provides the foundational expertise and infrastructure needed to design, implement, and continuously improve educational programs across the medical education continuum. This group partners closely with course leaders, programs, and faculty to translate educational goals into effective learning experiences and ensures consistency, quality, and scalability across curricula. 

Key functions within this mission area:  

• Development and management of curricular databases with associated reporting and visualization for all appropriate audiences 
• Design, implementation and continuous improvement of curricular elements and learning experiences 
• Develop creative and innovative approaches to learning which support medical education across the continuum 

Measure performance and improve programs through data

This mission area focuses on rigorous, fair, and meaningful measurement of learner performance and program effectiveness to support data-informed decision making for learners, educators, and institutional leaders. This work supports accreditation, curricular improvement, and educational accountability. 

Key functions within this mission area: 

• Development of fair and valid assessment systems that support learner development
• Design, delivery and reporting of evaluations for courses, instructors, and the program
• Continuous quality improvement efforts and ongoing accreditation

Build infrastructure and use data and technology to inform and innovate

This mission area develops and maintains the unified educational technology and data infrastructure that serves as the foundation for all other mission areas of the Collaborative. By integrating technology systems across educational programs, platforms, and operational tools, this group enables reliable access to educational data that supports assessment, program evaluation, instructional design, learning, and scholarship. 

Key functions within this mission area: 

• Educational Data Infrastructure and Analytics – Development and stewardship of the institutional educational data warehouse and governance structures that enable secure, integrated, and reliable access to educational data. This includes development of data visualization tools and reporting systems that support decision-making by educators, program leaders, and institutional leadership.
• Educational Technology and Platform Management – Ongoing administration, maintenance, and optimization of core educational platforms and software systems that support curriculum delivery, assessment, and program operations.
• Data Innovation and Artificial Intelligence – Exploration and development of emerging technologies, with particular emphasis on artificial intelligence and advanced analytics, to enhance educational operations, improve insights from educational data, and support new models of learning and assessment. Together, these capabilities create a coordinated technology ecosystem that ensures educational data are not only securely maintained but also transformed into actionable insights that drive continuous improvement, innovation, and scholarly work across the Collaborative. 

CU-MESA (Medical Education Scholarship Accelerator) serves as the Collaborative’s scholarship and dissemination engine, translating local educational innovations and institutional data into national impact. The mission of CU-MESA is to catalyze educational innovation, peer-reviewed scholarship, extramural funding, and cross-institutional collaboration in medical education. Develop and support educators and advance the educator community

The Academy for Medical Education (AME) develops, recognizes and supports faculty educators through professional development programs, mentoring, awards, small grants, and an annual education symposium. AME builds the community and talent pipeline that fuels educational innovation and scholarship.
