PGY 5 Admin Chief Residents

Andrea Simioni, MDAndrea Simioni, MD
Andrea was born and raised in Italy, where he attended medical school at the University of Padova. After graduation, he moved to the USA and completed a postdoctoral research fellowship in the NIH-funded “Ex vivo liver perfusion Clinical Trial” at the Cleveland Clinic. Andrea completed two years of preliminary general surgery training at Johns Hopkins University. He started as a PGY 3 resident at University of Colorado in July 2023.


MargotMargot DeBot, MD
A Wisconsin native, Margot DeBot earned her Bachelor of Science from the University of Notre Dame. After college, she spent 2 years competing in rugby around the country and working at Walter Reed on malaria vaccine development. She attended medical school at Rush University, and then came to University of Colorado for her residency. Margot spent 2 years as a fellow in the trauma research lab. She loves skiing, hiking, and camping with her wife.

Maddy ThomasMaddy Thomas, MD
Madeline is a North Carolina native and got her undergraduate degree from Duke University. Since then, she has been making her way west and earned her medical degree in Chicago prior to starting general surgery training at the University of Colorado. She intends to pursue fellowship training in Trauma and Critical Care after graduation. You’ll often find Maddy at Barry’s Bootcamp, eating hummus at Safta, or traveling the world with her fiancé.


SudheerSudheer Thomas, MD
Sudheer grew up in Atlanda, GA patiently waiting for the Braves to win the World Series. He earned his M.D. from the University of Virgina and moved to Denver to begin his general surgery residency. He spent two years in the lab focused on improving patient-centered care and surgical quality. Sudheer also served as co-president of the Housestaff Association. He enjoys cooking, traveling, skiing, and chasing his rescue dog, Charlie.



Research Admin Chiefs:

NicolasNicolas Drysdale, MD
Nicolas went to medical school at Duke university before coming to the University of Colorado for his general surgery residency. Nicolas is interested in cardiac surgery and planning on specializing in congenital cardiac surgery. He currently works with Dr. Stone for research and is pursuing his PhD in clinical sciences. He has been married to his beautiful wife, Kenna, for 11 years and they have four children together. Nicolas loves to draw and paint, cook, and spend time outdoors or traveling with his family.


MadelineMadeline Higgins, MD
Native to Colorado, Madeline pursued her undergraduate degree at the University of Colorado Boulder before delving into basic science research that brought her to Emory University in Atlanta. She then attended the University of Colorado School of Medicine, blending her Colorado roots with a dedication to patient care. Madeline enjoys savoring good food, exploring new destinations, reading fiction, and cherishing time with family and friends.

PGY 3 Class Reps

BaileyBailey Lyttle, MD
Bailey was born and raised in Tennessee, where she attended Vanderbilt University and obtained her B.A. in Neuroscience. She then moved across the state to Memphis, earning her M.D. at the University of Tennessee and discovering her love of surgery at the Elvis Presley Trauma Center in the process (dining on plenty of barbeque between shifts). Bailey is an aspiring pediatric surgeon and completed two years of research collaborating with Dr. Kenneth Liechty, studying the effects of a novel nanoparticle delivered topically to improve wound healing. She is passionate about medical education, spearheading the surgical curriculum for the University of Colorado School of Medicine Transition to Residency course as well as a resident-led mentorship program for female medical students interested in surgical specialties. Bailey loves exploring the mountains via hiking, climbing, backpacking, and skiing or spending a cozy day at home honing her gluten-free and high-altitude baking skills.

OttoOtto Thielen, MD
Otto was born in Caracas, Venezuela and spent most of his formative years in Miami, FL. He earned both his undergraduate degree in psychology and his medical degree at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. During residency, he spent 2 years as a T32 trauma research fellow investigating therapeutics for thromboinflammation after trauma, which led to multiple published manuscripts and national and international awards. Otto has also investigated outcomes for melanoma and esophageal cancer patients in hopes to pursue a career in surgical oncology. Outside of the hospital, he enjoys spending time with his family and friends, exercising, and spending time outdoors.

PGY 2 Class Reps

DavidDavid Moskal, MD
David grew up in the suburbs of Toronto, Canada and earned a Bachelor of Health Sciences at McMaster University. He completed his M.D. at Sidney Kimmel Medical College at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia where he survived an Eagles Super Bowl loss and a 76ers vs Toronto Raptors playoff game while wearing a Raptors jersey. In his free time, David enjoys running, cooking, hiking, and spending time with his cat, Dora.



DimaDima Malkawi, MD
Dima moved around different countries growing up. She completed her undergraduate studies at McMaster University in Canada and later followed her family to the U.S., where she attended medical school at Virginia Commonwealth University. Dima aspires to pursue a trauma fellowship and aims to work in underserved countries abroad as an attending physician. Her hobbies include crochet, rugby, pilates, travel, and spending time with her cat, Pickles.

GregoryGregory Fishberger, MD
Greg grew up in Westchester County in New York and subsequently attended Washington University in St. Louis for undergrad, where he studied Biology and Biochemistry. Afterwards, he moved to Tampa, Florida, where he first completed a Masters in Medical Sciences and then completed medical school at the University of South Florida Morsani College of Medicine. He is thrilled to be a member of the general surgery PGY-1 class and hopes to pursue a fellowship in Cardiothoracic Surgery. He is passionate about research in the field and has published a significant number of peer-reviewed manuscripts. Outside of medicine, Greg enjoys running, hiking, skiing, exploring Colorado, traveling, and spending time with friends.


AhmadAhmad Hider, MD
A Michigan Native, Ahmad earned his undergraduate and medical degree from the University of Michigan, and his Master’s in Philosophy from the University of Cambridge. Prior to beginning residency, Ahmad served as a White House Intern in the Office of Science and Technology Policy and as a Clinton Global Initiative Scholar. His research focus is on improving surgical outcomes for transplant recipients and is featured in NEJM Catalyst, Nature Cell Biology, and the Journal of Cystic Fibrosis. He aspires to pursue a transplant or cardiothoracic surgery fellowship. Outside of medicine, Ahmad enjoys spending time with family, friends, and exploring all the beautiful scenery that Colorado has to offer.
