The Enrichment Program sponsors several journal clubs every year that are typically held from September-June either on the CU Anschutz campus, via Zoom, or a hybrid. Below are the current running journal clubs.
The mission of this group is to share research updates, provide training and educational opportunities for trainees and facilitate new collaborations in order to advance skeletal muscle research on the CU Anschutz campus and beyond.
Organizer: Andrea Bonetto, PhD
Meetings: Last Tuesday of the month from 11am-12pm
Aims to discuss cutting-edge research that advances our understanding of fundamental metabolic processes with an additional focus on maternal-fetal metabolism. We hope that bringing a diverse group of basic and clinical metabolic scientists together will facilitate new insights into the molecular mechanisms that underlie metabolic health and disease.
Organizers: Amy Keller, PhD, Kimberly Bruce, PhD, Stephanie Wesolowski, PhD, Kristen Boyle, PhD
Meetings: Last Thursday of the month at 11am
Discussion of articles and concepts related to brown fat.
Organizer: Ed Melanson, PhD
Meetings: 2nd Monday of the month from 10-11am
Discussion of novel methods and technology (FACS, flow, Incucyte, IF and IHC) for characterizing white adipose tissue (precursors, mature adipocytes, immune cells).
Organizer: Andrew Libby, PhD
Meetings: 4th Thursday of the month from 3-4pm
The goal of NORC-sponsored Bone Think Tank is to bring together musculoskeletal researchers across the Front Range. Meetings focus on works-in-progress, ideas for collaboration, relevant scientific meeting highlights, preliminary data, and/or presentations from high-resolution quantitative computed tomography (HR-pQCT) seed grant awardees. Participants include basic, preclinical, and clinical students, postdocs, fellows, research staff, and PIs.
Organizers: Christine Swanson, MD MCR and Sarah Wherry, PhD
Meetings: 2nd Monday of the month from 4-5pm
Focused on discussing recent research advancements and providing training opportunities on physical activity methods, applications, and design. Every month, one individual will lead a discussion on a recently published paper, a manuscript or project they are currently working on, or data they have recently collected. Content is distributed through a private Outlook group and meetings are held via Zoom.
Organizer: Ana Pinto, PhD
Meetings: 3rd Tuesday of the month from 10am-11am
Research group with interests in mitochondrial biology in health and disease (development, neuro, immuno, cardio, cancer, and more). All roles and functions of mitochondria (metabolism/bioenergetics, calcium, iron, redox homeostasis, signaling, etc) and regulatory mechanisms are welcomed. Members come from CU Anschutz, Denver, NJH and Children's Colorado.
Organizer: M. Cecilia Caino, PhD and Maria Amaya, MD/PhD
Meetings: 4th week of the month from 10:30am-11am, alternating between Tuesdays and Fridays
