Eligibility Criteria for Bio-AD Study

 


 

Please note that additional things may come up during the course of screening that impact enrollment eligibility, which is ultimately up to the discretion of the study team.

Inclusion Criteria

You may be eligible for this study if you:

  • Have a study partner available to complete functional interviews and survey measures each year.

We are currently recruiting the following groups*

  • Healthy older adult from diverse backgrounds, 60 years and older
  • Adults with a confirmed diagnosis from a doctor of Alzheimer's disease, ages 50 and older
  • Adults with a confirmed diagnosis of Mild Cognitive Impairment due to Alzheimer’s disease, ages 50 and older
  • Adults diagnosed with an atypical form of Alzheimer's disease (i.e., Posterior Cortical Atrophy), ages 50 and older

Exclusion Criteria

You may not be eligible if you have the following:

Presence of concomitant medical, neurological, or psychiatric illness or condition that in the opinion of the investigators would confound interpretation of study results. These include:

  • Korsakoff encephalopathy
  • Active substance abuse
  • Hepatitis C
  • Opportunistic brain infection
  • Brain tumor
  • Active neoplastic disease (skin tumors other than melanoma are not exclusionary. participants with stable prostate cancer may be included at the discretion of the project director)
  • Multiple sclerosis
  • History of clinically significant stroke
  • Current evidence or history in the past 2 years of focal brain lesion
  • Head injury with loss of consciousness in the past year
  • DSM-V criteria for any major psychiatric disorder, including psychosis, uncontrolled major depression, bipolar disorder, alcohol or substance abuse
  • Blindness
  • Deafness
  • Any other disability which may prevent the participant from participating or cooperating in the protocol.
  • Prisoners
  • Any contraindication for MRI (for non-down syndrome participants)
