Kathleen Connell, MD, is a nationally recognized leader in urogynecology research. In addition to her clinical work, she directs the Urogynecology Basic Science Laboratory at the University of Colorado Anschutz School of Medicine, where she oversees and leads the section’s translational research initiatives.
Dr. Connell’s research focuses on understanding the cellular changes within pelvic tissues that contribute to pelvic floor disorders, including pelvic organ prolapse and connective tissue dysfunction.
During her tenure as junior faculty at Yale, she was a scholar in the NICHD Women’s Reproductive Health Research Career Development Program, where her groundbreaking work identified a developmental gene that regulates connective tissue turnover in pelvic ligaments, found to be deficient in women with pelvic organ prolapse.
Today, Dr. Connell serves as Professor and Division Chief and William B. Goddard, MD, Endowed Professor in Urogynecology. She is board‑certified in Obstetrics & Gynecology and was among the first physicians in Colorado to become board certified in Urogynecology.
Her research is frequently presented at national and international conferences, and she has authored numerous publications in leading basic science and medical journals, including an invited review in the New England Journal of Medicine.
