Surgery Styles -- smart float
The University of Colorado General Surgery program received approval in February 2024 from the ABS, ABTS, and ACGME for a Joint General Surgery/Thoracic Surgery 4 + 3 pathway.
Residents interested in this program will participate in an extended selection process that includes a designed cardiothoracic surgery rotation during their PGY-3 year, followed by an in-person interview with CT faculty. One resident is selected annually for this track.
The purpose of this joint program is to allow General Surgery residents in their PGY-4 and PGY-5 years to cross-train on both general surgery and thoracic surgery services. This structure allows residents to simultaneously fulfill the required general surgery curriculum and begin their thoracic surgical training education for their thoracic surgery fellowship.
Intern applicants who are interested in pursuing this pathway should notify the program coordinators once an interview invitation has been extended.
