Clinical & Research Interests:

I am an Internal Medicine/Pediatrics trained physician with specialty training in nutrition/obesity medicine. I see patients within the Lifestyle Medicine pediatric weight management program and the adolescent Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Center at Children’s Hospital Colorado. My research focuses on studying novel approaches to personalize obesity treatment using a combination of tools including lifestyle interventions, anti-obesity pharmacotherapy, and bariatric surgery to reduce obesity-related morbidity and to minimize disparities driven by the social determinants of health and by underlying diagnoses (e.g. intellectual/developmental disabilities, hypothalamic obesity).

Current Projects:

  • A prospective descriptive cohort study of adolescents and young adults with severe obesity and intellectual/developmental disability who present for bariatric surgery evaluation (PI)
  • A randomized controlled pilot study of adjunctive anti-obesity pharmacotherapy in adolescents and young adults who do not achieve adequate risk reduction after bariatric surgery (PI)
  • A quality improvement project to more effectively transition adolescents and young adults with obesity from a pediatric to an adult model of weight management care
