The Sepsis Program began in 2012 in the Anschutz Emergency Department and has since expanded to include all Emergency and Urgent Care sites and inpatient units. The Clinical Effectiveness team has been critical in facilitating the work in recent years. Co-led by Dr. Halden Scott, Dr. Lalit Bajaj, and Dr. Justin Lockwood, this team includes more than 30 members including physicians, advanced practice providers, nurses, pharmacists, informaticists, and improvement specialists. Through education, research, and clinical dissemination the partners have worked together to improve the quality of care and safety for children with sepsis in our healthcare system. This has resulted in clinical protocols and improved outcome measures with mortality dramatically below national averages and decrease in patients requiring ICU care. The ED arrival to sepsis recognition time has improved from 50 minutes to 4 minutes.
