The UCHealth Adult Special Care Ophthalmology Clinic – Sue Anschutz-Rodgers Eye Center at CU Anschutz caters specifically to adults with special needs who otherwise have difficulty getting eye appointments or the level of care they need. Many of these patients are nonverbal or have severe intellectual delays that can be challenging for eye exams. This clinic utilizes the strengths and skills that pediatric ophthalmologists use every day to help this underserved population of patients who need to move out of Children's Hospital Colorado or other child-focused care and into an appropriate care setting.
Blau syndrome is a rare, inherited inflammatory disease caused by changes in the NOD2 gene. The condition typically develops during infancy and most commonly affects the joints, skin, and eyes. Because Blau syndrome can also involve other parts of the body, including the gastrointestinal, nervous, and vascular systems, patients often require coordinated care from multiple specialists. Our multidisciplinary team is dedicated to providing comprehensive care for individuals with Blau syndrome while advancing research to improve outcomes and quality of life.
