MAT Resources for HOMER Practices

Have a question?  Need resources or support for MAT at your practice?  Practices participating in the HOMER study can utilize the following resources.

IT MATTTRs MATerials Resource Toolkit

IT MATTTRs™ collaborated with several partners to provide a comprehensive collection of resources, induction protocols, forms, and information to assist practices in treating patients with opioid use disorder (OUD).  The MATerials Resource Toolkit provides sample handouts, protocols, and procedures for practices to effectively treat or refer patients with OUD.  The MATerials Toolkit is available online.  HOMER practices can request a FREE hard copy of the MATerials toolkit for easy access at your practice.  To get your copy, email Kristen at homer@cuanschutz.edu.

Practice Team Training in OUD and MAT

Designed for primary care and behavioral health care teams, the IT MATTTRs Practice Team Training provides all members of the practice team information on OUD and MAT and supports team-based care for effective care.  HOMER practices can access a recorded version 4-module Team Training or request live training from a trained Practice Facilitator. Email Kristen at homer@cuanschutz.edu for more information.

  • Module 1: Why we’re here; what opioids are and how do they work; tolerance, dependence, and addiction; and an introduction to buprenorphine
  • Modules 2 and 3:  Steps involved with providing MAT with buprenorphine – what your patients experience and what practices need to implement to provide MAT
  • Module 4:  Ongoing treatment activities; MAT in special populations

Clinician Waiver Training

Several national organizations offer online training for clinicians to prescribe buprenorphine for opioid use disorder.  These include:

  • The American Society of Addiction Medicine’s Treatment of Opioid Use Disorder Course provides required education for clinicians to identify, diagnose, and manage patients with OUD.  ASAM is an approved provider by CSAT/SAMHSA of DATA 2000 training.  asam-logo
  • Providers Clinical Support System (PCSS-MAT) provides trainings on a broad range of substance use disorder treatments, focusing on OUD, and offers waiver-qualifying MAT training to clinicians.
  • The Practice Innovation Program at the University of Colorado offers a free hybrid training model to clinicians to obtain their DEA waiver to prescribe buprenorphine for OUD.  This model offers a 4-hour online session with an approved expert practicing MAT clinician instructor.  Trainees complete the remaining 4 hours on their own.  Visit the Practice Innovation Program for more information. PIP_Opioid_Logo
