It has been such a privilege thus far to be able to work with and collaborate with faculty that are leaders in their respective fields within Endocrinology. I'm lucky to be training at a program that will certainly prepare me for a future as a clinician-educator.

I am originally from Knoxville, Tennessee, and completed medical school and internal medicine residency through the University of Tennessee Health Science Center. My background in biochemistry and molecular biology helped spark my interest in endocrinology, and I enjoy the field’s blend of physiology, complex clinical reasoning, and longitudinal patient care. I am interested in comprehensive endocrinology and clinical education. I was drawn to the University of Colorado for its strong clinical training, diverse patient population, and welcoming faculty who are leaders in endocrinology. After visiting Colorado and the Mountain West numerous times growing up, I am excited for the opportunity to train in a state I have always hoped to call home. Outside of medicine, I enjoy spending time with my wife and our two dogs, mountain biking, skiing, running, hiking, and fishing.

Hello! I am thrilled to join the Colorado Anschutz Endocrine family! I have a passion for cooking food, consuming food, tennis, and the great outdoors - which makes Endocrinology at CU the perfect fit. I am eager to bring my love of food and endocrinology together by getting involved with the Culinary Medicine team while also diving into everything the field has to offer. I was drawn to CU because the people immediately stood out. During my interview, the faculty were not only invested in my growth as a physician but were also genuinely enjoyable to talk with. The conversations felt natural and welcoming, and it was easy to picture myself learning from - and spending time with - them over the next few years. I will be moving from the Kansas City area with my wife and our cat, and we are excited to take in the beautiful outdoors and vibrant coffee scene that Denver provides!

I was born in Colorado and completed both my undergraduate and medical education at the University of Kansas (Rock Chalk!). I then returned to Colorado for residency at the University of Colorado. Outside of medicine, I enjoy hiking, reading, and spending time with my wife, Emma, and our two dogs, Ginger and Maya. I am excited to begin endocrinology fellowship and can’t wait to learn more about this amazing field, while continuing in academic medicine where I hope to teach and engage in research.

2nd Year Fellow
I grew up in Utah. I studied biochemistry at Harvard and completed my MD/PhD at Indiana University. I first moved to Colorado during my PhD and fell in love with Denver and would later match to Colorado for internal medicine/primary care track residency. I am excited to stay in Colorado for endocrine fellowship for its amazing clinical opportunities to serve diverse patient populations and receive outstanding mentorship in all aspects of endocrinology. My clinical interest is practicing general endocrinology and research interests focus on interventions to improve outcomes related to diabetes, obesity, cardiovascular disease, health disparities using quantitative and epidemiological tools.

Swecha Potharaj MD

2nd Year Fellow
I was born in Kerala, in the southern part of India, and have lived in various parts of the country. I completed my medical education at Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College in Belgaum. I began my internal medicine residency at the UTRGV-DHR program in McAllen, Texas, and completed the remainder of my training at Highland Hospital in Oakland, California. Throughout my residency, I had the privilege of caring for underserved populations in both Oakland and McAllen. These experiences have shaped my clinical interests, which focus on diabetes, obesity, metabolic syndrome, and cardiovascular health—with a strong emphasis on preventive care. My long-term goal is to establish a practice that provides comprehensive endocrine care to underserved communities, promoting equitable access to high-quality healthcare.  I am excited to move to Colorado and learn from the world-class faculty at the University of Colorado. In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my family, traveling, practicing yoga, and cooking.
