Dermatology Residency Program
Welcome to the University of Colorado Dermatology Residency Training Program. Our mission is to train outstanding, well-rounded dermatologists who will be leaders in patient care, education, and innovation in their chosen communities.
Upon successful completion of the program, our graduates will have contemporary, evidence-based understanding of the evaluation, diagnosis, and management of the full spectrum of dermatologic disease, will have met the expected milestones in the six core ACGME competencies, and will be well-prepared for certification by the American Board of Dermatology. Our graduates will appreciate that mastering the art and science of dermatology practice requires lifelong learning and will be equipped with the requisite skills to continue their professional journey in academia, community-based practice, or subspecialty training.
We aim to:
1. Immerse trainees in diverse clinical experiences, preparing them to provide effective, evidence-based care to patients of all ages and backgrounds.
2. Promote critical thinking and inquiry in dermatology and provide exposure to clinical, translational and bench research, including the science of practice improvement and quality improvement.
3. Model compassion, collaboration and professionalism in our interactions with patients, learners, and colleagues.
4. Facilitate individualized personal and professional growth.
Our program trains six residents per year (PGY-2 through PGY-4) and is accredited by the Accreditation Council on Graduate Medical Education (ACGME).
Residents rotate at four teaching sites – UCHealth, an academic medical center, Rocky Mountain Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Children’s Hospital Colorado, and Denver Health, gaining expertise and autonomy in all areas of dermatology.
Our expert faculty guide residents through a comprehensive didactic curriculum, including structured lectures, journal club, Kodachrome sessions, and board review, delivered in a weekly, in-person academic half-day and virtual lunch-and-learn sessions.
Residents focused on inquiry, innovation and a research-focused career can immerse themselves in the scientific process through our Investigative Training (2+2) Track, which fosters excellence in both clinical training and research.
