Deriving insights from data and using those insights to guide clinical care is an important part of delivering the highest quality health care to our state and region. The Department of Biomedical Informatics will be a key partner for our affiliated hospitals and health systems as a key source of biomedical and clinical analytics expertise.
Similarly, health systems across the country will be key partners for the department in supporting informatics faculty to engage in activities meaningful to next-generation clinical diagnostics, predictive models, and clinical practice.
Recently, our faculty members have developed a mortality model for triage and evaluated Epic’s sepsis model in collaboration with UCHealth. We are also supporting UCHealth’s efforts to deliver personalized care to patients guided by genetic factors. Additionally, faculty are engaged in research into rare diseases, which aligns closely with a precision medicine focus that is expanding at Children’s Hospital Colorado.
With our new department, we will combine our research efforts with the CU School of Medicine to enhance collaboration with our health systems and hospital partners, providing the groundwork for a strong and mutually beneficial relationship at the intersection of data and care delivery.
