VESPA can only be successful with the input and participation of community stakeholders, government organizations, clinicians, law enforcement and many more to help clinically educate the community that directly work with elder maltreatment patients and community members.
CU Anschutz Multidisciplinary Center on Aging hosts a bi-annual Community Stakeholder Task Force meeting as an opportunity to share best practices, provide clinical education around elder maltreatment, and identify new ways to provide the best clinical care for older adults experiencing abuse. If you are interested in joining the Community Stakeholder Task Force email: Jodi.waterhouse@cuanschutz.edu
If you are interested in having our clinical team provide an in-service presentation to your team please reach out to Jodi.waterhouse@cuanschutz.edu. Education is taking place around Colorado by the VESPA Team whom are very interested to provide clinical education, programming and research work with partners around the state. World Elder Abuse Awareness Day (WEAAD) was launched on June 15, 2006 by the International Network for the Prevention of Elder Abuse and the World Health Organization at the United Nations.
The purpose of WEAAD is to provide an opportunity for communities around the world to promote a better understanding of abuse and neglect of older persons by raising awareness of the cultural, social, economic and demographic processes affecting elder abuse and neglect.
In addition, WEAAD is in support of the United Nations International Plan of Action acknowledging the significance of elder abuse as a public health and human rights issue. WEAAD serves as a call-to-action for individuals, organizations, and communities to raise awareness about elder abuse, neglect, and exploitation.
