The Pharmacology Department strives to understand the best ways to target drug therapies to help treat disease. Many diseases can be helped by focusing treatment on a number of areas, and the scientists in this department figure out how to choose the best drug targets. Scientists here also make sure to understand how a drug is metabolized or broken down and consumed in the body, what the safest and most effective dose is, and how best to deliver the drug to the body. You can think of this department as the group that develops medicines, helps doctors understand which ones to use and how to best use them for patient treatment plans.
Have you ever wondered how medicines work? Maybe you’ve wondered how ibuprofen works when you take it to get rid of your headache? Or maybe how antacid tablets works when you take them to stop heartburn? Learning more about pharmacology will help you find the answers!
