The Immunology and Microbiology Department investigates the interactions between host defenses (the immune system) and invaders (microbes). The scientists in this department study the strategies that the immune system and microbes use to either compete for resources or live in harmony with each other. Scientists in this department study things like infections, autoimmunity, cancer, and what happens to the body’s defense systems as we age.
The studies of immunology and microbiology are crucial; they deepen our understanding of how organisms and immune systems interact, leading to advancements in disease prevention, treatment, and overall public health.
Would you like to learn about how the immune system keeps you healthy and fights off disease (immunology)? Would you rather learn about how microorganisms infect our bodies, get cozy and make us their homes (microbiology)?
Whichever one you choose, be sure to check out the exciting research being done by the immunologists and microbiologists right here on the University of Colorado Anschutz medical campus!
