Estefania Miramontes Valdes earned her medical degree back in Mexico from the Tec of Monterrey School of Medicine. Very early into medical school she discovered her interest in public health and decided to make a career in it. She worked as a Project Manager for a non-profit organization – Health Commission of Consejo Nuevo Leon – in Monterrey, Mexico where she helped developed childhood obesity and teenage pregnancy prevention health initiatives for the Department of Health. In 2018 she immigrated to Baltimore, MD, where she worked as a Community Outreach Specialist and researcher in a Family Planning program serving primarily immigrant and uninsured Latina women and girls in a pediatric care practice at the Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center. Within the first year of work, she summarized the results of this program and presented them at PAS in 2019. Also in 2019, The Bill and Melinda Gates Institute for Population and Reproductive Health awarded her as one of the 120 under 40 Family Planning leaders. During the COVID-19 epidemic, she worked as a contact tracer for the Baltimore City Health Department. 2 years ago she moved to Denver and joined ACCORDS as a Professional Research Assistant from where she transitioned a year after to a Research Services Senior Professional and Project Manager of the Healthy Toddlers Project a childhood obesity prevention NHI funded project lead by Dr. Darcy Thompson.
