Dr. Tietbohl is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Family Medicine and a methodologies with the ACCORDS Qualitative and Mixed Methods Core. She holds a B.A. in Psychology from the University of California, Berkeley, and both an M.A. and a Ph.D. in Sociology from the University of California, Los Angeles. Dr. Tietbohl’s research focuses on how communication shapes health care experiences, especially as it relates to medical decision-making and its consequences. Her work uses qualitative and mixed methods to investigate how social categories, medical conditions and contexts, authority, and external forces come to bear on physician-patient communication and contribute to variations in health care.
