AHRQ Long COVID Grant
The Care Collaborative is one of nine $5 million grant awardees announced by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) through the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ). ECHO Colorado programs supported by the grant include live and asynchronous learning opportunities for primary care providers. The funds have enabled The Care Collaborative to broaden eConsults support at Colorado clinics struggling with the presentation and management of Long COVID in patients.
The Care Collaborative has expanded crucial telehealth services to rural Colorado with the help of new federal funding. Rep. Jason Crow (D-Colo.) joined program and campus leaders in 2024 to announce the $403,000 Community Project Funding Request, which he secured earlier this year in the fiscal year 2024 government funding bill, and praised CU Anschutz School of Medicine faculty members for their work reaching underserved communities through the The Care Collaborative’s eConsult program. Funding for the eConsults program was also supported by Sens. Michael Bennet (D-Colo.) and John Hickenlooper (D-Colo.). Read more here.
ECHO Colorado, a program of The Care Collaborative at the University of Colorado Anschutz School of Medicine, implemented nine asynchronous courses as part of the CDC-funded Long COVID and Fatiguing Illness Recovery Program. The series of nine courses was created due to the growing number of Long COVID cases being seen in primary care, and focused on enabling PCPs to assess and manage the condition in the outpatient setting. The courses walked through real-world case studies, offering relevant insights into the epidemiology, pathophysiology and clinical management of brain fog, PEM/fatigue and other conditions associated with Long COVID.
This grant funds our Adolescent Reproductive Health (ARH) ECHO program, which provides comprehensive training and ongoing support for pediatric health care providers and other professionals who work with young people. The ARH ECHO program includes both synchronous and on-demand training, community of practice conferences that stimulate discussions around adolescent reproductive health topics, a resource website and monthly clinical pearls that highlight best practices, new research findings and valuable resources. The ARH ECHO community of learners now includes over 800 providers.
